I have a one-on-one class with a 6th grade boy. His English level is very high and he is good student. We decided not to do a textbook this term, instead he is just going to do independent reading at home. Then we’ll discuss the book and talk about new vocabulary once a week.
Anyway, I’m looking for book recommendations. Preferably less than 250 pages… I want him to read...
The tamagotchi that I bought for 2,000 won at Alpha keeps dying.
Good thing I’m not planning on raising any children.
I think it might be beneficial for me to develop some aspirations.

I get a little bit weepy and delirious when I’m sick… which I currently am.
Also I strongly dislike it when tumblr accounts I enjoy disappear.
I found an old key in my mailbox. I had somehow not noticed it in the almost two years that I’ve lived here. I hope it opens a treasure chest or perhaps a hidden chamber in my apartment.
Currently using my new phone after way too much hassle. However, it is so very pretty that I do not care.
Did you know that you can’t open a new KT account on a Saturday? Well, you can’t. And I went to Gangnam to find this out. At least I got to go to a cat cafe finally.

Hmm, some of my students have gotten into the habit of burping into each other’s mouths. Usually, I’m not easily grossed out but it’s seriously making me want to vomit on their faces.
Ryan Gosling is definitely the funniest part of this.
So luckily they reduced the price to $1500 because he didn’t survive. It still seems so expensive. I think I’ll send her some money for it as a Christmas gift.
And in completely unrelated, less depressing news (that I kind of feel like a punk for bringing up)… I am going to buy a smartphone but I am having a lot of trouble deciding between an iPhone 4S or a Galaxy Nexus.

I just told all my Korean coworkers and they FREAKED out.
I’m thinking of buying myself a smart phone for Christmas. I currently have a shitty phone and contract through my recruiter. It used to be cheap but they raised the price. However, I am so goddamn lazy. I’m not sure if I have it in me to go through the process of getting a new phone/contract.

Daslava—What’s giving you problems on gmarket?
Just the whole drop down list of what seems like 8,000 things all in hangul. I can’t figure out what sweater is what and it’s frustrating as hell.
I can read hangul, but for some reason I can’t figure out shit on Gmarket when there’s that many options.
If you are using English Gmarket, there is a little button...

Yesterday at Taekwondo, the man who owns my dojang came up to me with his phone. He secretely held up the phone to my face and said, “Surprise”.
It was a picture of toilet filled with urine and shit. He was very proud of his four year old son because of the size.
Also, I’m a blue belt now.

When will my landlord bring me back my apartment keys? Will I ever be able to leave my apartment again? Are they finished installing the new gas pipe? If I use my stove, will I explode?
I don’t know. They are all mysteries.
Edit: Finally got them back… twelve hours later. I am assuming I won’t blow up because the man gave me an OK gesture after testing them. Unless it means...
Awesome
I noticed yesterday that the key chain for my one precious key was being a bit jankity.
Today one of my kindergartners gave me a key chain from her recent vacation.
Excellent.

I may or may not have just thrown one of my student’s sticker charts out the window. Not a very smart method of discipline. At least I did it in a calm manner… it was quite nonchalant actually.

Pencil cases with built in games are the bane of my existence. Who thought that was a good idea?

There are a lot of things in my life that I’d like to change if I could. If I could go back in time I would train my dog to have less separation anxiety. I would also work harder in school and try to eat healthier. Most importantly, I would have forced my father to go to the doctor more often.
However, being an avid science fiction fan, I know that time travel comes with a cost. If I...

One of my students just fell asleep during his term test. He was drooling all over his arm and when I tried to get him to wake up, he just fell back asleep. So, I took his chair. Then he just stomped at me angrily. I’m sure he succeeded up a storm.
Yup.
But at least open classes are over, and they went well. Downside is that a bunch of new students started this week. I like getting...
My school has Kindergarten open classes this week.
This morning I accidentally brushed my teeth with face wash.
It should be a good week.

I have a better question: Am I the only person left on the peninsula without a smart phone
Nope! I don’t have one either. I’m using it on my iPod, which is pretty useless since I only have wireless at work and when I press my iPod up against my window. Which is what I am doing right now with my...
Are the people in the “Friends?” section of kakaotalk, friend recommendations or friend requests?
While I am in the U.S. I have been searching for jobs. Apparently I have no aspirations or goals. Anyone have suggestions for a career path? Because I am drawing a blank.

I am currently in Brooklyn in my brother’s nice/huge apartment. I can’t sleep. I am sweating to death because they have no air conditioning. However, I am still jealous of the apartment since my nephew’s bedroom is the size of my apartment I’m Korea.
My boss just gave me ten t-shirts and various other gifts to give my family. I say various other gifts, because they are all already wrapped and I have no idea what they are… that takes care of the gift buying!
I am going to the U.S. tomorrow. Right now I am avoiding a bunch of stuff I need to do before I go. Also, I am defrosting my fridge/freezer and I am sure my floor is very wet. That should be fun to go home to tonight.
I am not excited yet. I will not be excited until I get on the plane. I am too nervous that I will somehow miss my flight, to be excited about anything.
Also I failed to buy...
My brain and eyes hurt. I am going to visit the U.S. in nine days. I am going to Michigan and New York. I am not excited yet, except to see my mom and dog. And bagel bites. I am dreading the journey.
La-di-da… I should be finishing all my plans for my substitute. She is coming in on Tuesday, so I can show her what to do and all that jazz. Tomorrow is “Summer Camp” AKA...
I am going to start posting boring shit about what I do during the day… because I am bored.
On Friday, after Taekwondo, I went to a new burger place in my neighborhood. It was good. It’s a chain (Mr. Big) that is apparently pretty popular based on my googling, but I had never been to one before. Then I went to my coworker’s friend’s house and we drank a bit and played...

Four months ago, CBS reporter Lara Logan was separated from her camera crew while covering the revolution in Cairo, Egypt, and brutally raped by a crowd of men.
Two months ago, Logan bravely began speaking out in the media about her assault in the media to help end the stigma surrounding rape.
Discipline Issues
I teach Pre-K through 7th grade, and most of my students have come up through my school’s kindergarten. Because of this, they are at a pretty high level. My school teaches regular subjects (Social Studies, Math, Science…) and it is usually a bit difficult for students who come from other schools.
Right now, we are having big issues at my school disciplining a certain class. They...
